• πŸ“Ί Over the weekend I watched a few episodes of the live-action Cowboy Bebop released the other year.

It was unpopular when it came out, but taken on its own terms I’m enjoying it quite a lot. The stylish production with slightly ropy CGI works for me. And the cast is great, especially John Cho.

  • I was listening to a podcast with Cory Wong interviewing Nuno Bettencourt. Nuno kept talking about a guitarist he rated called “Edward”. It wasn’t until later in the podcast when he told a story about the guy that I realised he was talking about Eddie Van Halen 😎

  • Some of the music I spent time with in April: musicthread.app/thread/2N…

  • Finished reading: The Bone Shard War by Andrea Stewart πŸ“š

A neat and satisfying third in the trilogy.

  • 🎡 After a first run through I think I like the new boygenius record quite a lot. musicthread.app/link/2P0S…

  • Finished reading: The Law by Jim Butcher πŸ“š

  • Finished reading: Planetfall by Emma Newman πŸ“š

Really interesting. Was not about what I expected it to be about.

  • 🎡 This morning I’m back on one of my absolute favourite albums ever: Audible Sigh from Bill Mallonee/VoL musicthread.app/link/2OjB…

  • 🍿 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: For when you don’t need Great and Worthy Art but want a fun time with a thoroughly charming cast. I’ll watch it again πŸ‘πŸ»

  • Finished reading: The Insatiable Volt Sisters by Rachel Eve Moulton πŸ“š

They were wizards and witches, painters and writers, and blower-uppers of rock.

  • Finished reading: The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix πŸ“š

  • Ended up having to go to Ikea this morning. Unexpectedly for a Saturday morning on a bank holiday weekend, it was like a ghost town.

  • 🎡 In an unexpected development, today I am mostly listening to Polyphia. Quite enjoying myself, too.

  • Finished reading: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix πŸ“š

The vampire’s good, but the real horror’s in the misogyny, the abuse, the racism, the class politics. For some reason the cover and the blurb made me expect something light and fluffy. It’s not that. Very good.

  • 🍿 John Wick Chapter 4 does its thing very well. The cast is great. The fight choreography and stunts are spectacular, and delivered with style. It’s beautifully shot, too. Can I go and see it again?

  • Finished reading: How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix πŸ“š

I enjoyed this one quite a lot. Creepy, with a Kingian feel.

  • Finished reading: Hide by Kiersten White πŸ“š

A fun ride, this one. Thought-provoking, too.

  • 🎡 One disc in, and I’m not sure what to make of the new U2 record. Some of the versions of songs on here sound great (Bad is the best so far), but others (Where The Streets Have No Name, One) are verging on painful.

  • Finished reading: Her Majesty’s Royal Coven (HMRC, Book 1) by Juno Dawson πŸ“š

  • Finished reading: The Power by Naomi Alderman πŸ“š

Picked this up after seeing a trailer for the TV series. I don’t know why I didn’t read it before nowβ€”this book is very much my kind of thing.

  • 🎡 Let’s have some Covet: music.apple.com/gb/album/… 🎸

  • Watching The Matrix with the boys. Everyone in it looks very young. 🎬🍿

  • Finished reading: The Jaguar Path (The Songs of the Drowned, Book 2) by Anna Stephens πŸ“š

These really are a rollercoaster of a read. Just like the author’s previous trilogy, actually.

  • 🎡 A list of some of the music I listened to in February: musicthread.app/thread/2L…

Not everything, but some that especially stood out to me.

  • Finished reading: Old Country by Matthew Query πŸ“š

A bit of folk horror. Might have benefited from a tighter edit, though.
